aleSUnd

The Art Nouveau town of Alesund could be taken right out of a fairy tale. In the early hours of January 1904, a terrible fire raged thru Alesund. In a space of 16 hours,  850 houses were burnt to the ground and ten thousand people were left homeless.

From Ashes to Art Nouveau...it is not without reason that Alesund was voted the most beautiful town in Norway by the people in 2007 and the newspaper, The Times in 2009. It is easy to become fascinated by Alesund, with its Art Nouveau style and a myriad of turrets, spires and beautiful ornamentation.

Mt Aksla, with the Fjellstua and Kniven viewpoints, is one of Alesund's biggest attractions. The view of the town, the lovely islands, the view of the majestic Sunnmore Alps are simply breathtaking !

some pictures of beautiful Alesund....

and we heard there's a factory outlet shopping in Alesund, " Devoldfabrikken "....found out its only a 8 min speed boat ride.... even with slight shower and drizzle, we still persist on going to this outlet shopping. Turned out a bit disappointed....not very good choices and variety.

We were very lucky to be in Alesund July 11 - 14th bcos the Tall Ships Races starts on July 15th - 18th and we could catch a glimpse of some of the tall ships from Brazil, Equador and a few more , docking on Alesund wharf
the Tall ship from Equardor
and on July 13th, we meaning CS, Gred and myself were too tired to follow CC out cycling around Alesund. Our legs were still trying to recuperate from Copenhagen cycle ride. So CC got the free bicycle from the hotel Scandic Parken and ventured out on his own in this cold foggy and drizzling day ! Along his way to  Geiranger,  he took some amazing pictures ...its like from another world of the " Pirates of the Carribean "
it is really amazing photographs ... especially with the fog and mist and the tall ships, you would really wonder if you are in the right world  ?
