Copenhagen Cathedral - "the Church of our Lady", the site where this Cathedral is located has housed several churches since 1209. The Cathedral has been rebuilt 4 times.
The Cathedral had for a long time been associated with the Royal Family , for ceremonial events such as crowning and weddings.
the Little Mermaid , Den Lille Havfrue is undoubtedly one of the most photographed girls in the world and is a legendary symbol and landmark for Copenhagen and the #1 tourist attraction in Denmark, with over 1 million visitors every year !
The Little Mermaid commemorate her 100 year grand jubilee in 2013.
The statue is a gift to the city and donated in 1909 by the Danish brewer of Carlsberg brewery, Carl Jacobson, after he had attended the ballet performance about the little mermaid at the royal theatre and was fascinated with the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
To honor and commemorate the legend he decided to immortalise the Little Mermaid. Carl Jacobson requested a talented sculptor, Edvard Erikson to create the sculptor of the little mermaid. Edvard used his own wife as the model to create the head and torso. The sculpture of the Little Mermaid was made of bronze and unveiled on Aug 23rd 1913, at the waterfront of Langelinie as Carl Jacobson felt the mermaid should be in her natural surroundings by the sea.
