CoPENhAGEN

July 3rd - 6th  Copenhagen is the coolest kid on the Nordic block .  Not only is it the premier capital of  Northern Europe, it is Scandinavia's most fantastic city and the center of most dynamic region in Europe. The city is one of Europe's oldest capital with an exclusive royal touch - the monarchy in Denmark is the oldest in the world.

Copenhagen is a charming and modern city that still remembers its history. Its a people-friendly city and there's always something interesting around the corner ! A tour of the inner city is easily managed on foot and its old cobbled streets provide an evocative backdrop to the thriving cultural scene, with art galleries, museums, music and theatres.

If the thought of experiencing a capital city on 2 wheels scares you, Copenhagen will soon change your mind ! This city is built for cyclists. And you will see more bikes than cars in the city center. A third of Copenhageners commute to work by bicycles and its not unusual to see people in suits, heels and skirts effortlessly peddling pass.

Copenhagen is covered by 350km of cycle paths and lanes which are raised from the road and are really safe to cycle on. Some city junctions even have flashing lights when cyclists approach to warn drivers before they turn.
For 2 years running Copenhagen is voted the best cycle city by US sustainability experts Treehugger.

Bike rental are easily found and for 75krono for a day rental and some even offers with GPS !

Copenhagen Cathedral - "the Church of our Lady", the site where this Cathedral is located has housed several churches since 1209. The Cathedral has been rebuilt 4 times.

The Cathedral had for a long time been associated with the Royal Family , for ceremonial events such as crowning and weddings.

and of course " the little mermaid "
the Little Mermaid , Den Lille Havfrue is undoubtedly one of the most photographed girls in the world and is a legendary symbol and landmark for Copenhagen and the #1 tourist attraction in Denmark, with over 1 million visitors every year !
The Little Mermaid commemorate her 100 year grand jubilee in 2013.

The statue is a gift to the city and donated in 1909 by the Danish brewer of Carlsberg brewery, Carl Jacobson, after he had attended the ballet performance about the little mermaid at the royal theatre and was fascinated with the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
To honor and commemorate the legend he decided to immortalise the  Little Mermaid. Carl Jacobson requested a talented sculptor, Edvard Erikson to create the sculptor of the little mermaid. Edvard used his own wife as the model to create the head and torso. The sculpture of the Little Mermaid was made of bronze and unveiled on Aug 23rd 1913, at the waterfront of Langelinie as Carl Jacobson felt the mermaid should be in her natural surroundings by the sea.
